As stated by others, the current is wicked running past the docks so be sure to approach bow into the flow. We were there for one night on Labor Day weekend so it was maybe worse than usual but the local boaters seem to enjoy making big wakes past the marina. They have to slow for the bridge but only do so at the last second. Be sure to have plenty of fenders available and don't expect to sleep past sunrise.

This "marina" has pros and cons. First, the good points: David the dock master could not have been more accommodating-- texting in advance to help us navigate the bridge next to the marina and helping us tie up.. The location is also very convenient to a vibrant downtown area.
However, this not really a marina. It is a place to tie up-- but there are no amenities-- and access to the dock after dark is treacherous and badly lit. For a one night stay in transit it's fine but it's not a place to plan to spend any length of time.
Marina Response:
Hello Mary,
Thank you for your review, and your kind remarks about my personal efforts in getting you and your vessel safely docked on the mighty Piscataqua River.
But in response, your remarks about the faciities at Harbour Place are not factual.
There are indeed bathrooms and shower facilities, as well as a laundry room on location inside the building right next to the docks.
Since we are located in the heart of Portsmouth's downtown waterfront, these facilities are accessed through seperate locked access points for the security and safety of out guests.
This information was provided to your captain upon arrival.
He declined accepting it, and stated that your passsengers were fine with the facilities available on board your 85' vessel. He was also given additional information about what the immediate area had to offer and provided further information about the marina, to include proper trash disposal etc.etc.
As you've noted, I go above and beyond to communicate clearly with all transient guests.
Not just as a matter of good customer service, but also because as a life-long cruiser myself, I appreciate when marina staff at a new destination provide me with as much local knowledge as possible in order to easily arrive and depart from an unfamiliar dock in unknown waters.
Communication is the key, especially on this river.
Thank you, David

Portsmouth is an incredibly charming town. Dave, the marina manager, is super helpful and a great guy. The marina is steps away from dozens of quaint restaurants and bars and stone buildings and streets. I would def recommend this marina as a perfectly stop over on your way north/south or as a destination onto itself.

David the dockmaster is very kind and helpful.

Great access to downtown Po-town, Prescott park and more.
traffic in the river makes for a very uncomfortable day on the dock but...
At night traffic goes away and the waters are calm

Staff was very helpful. Marina is convenient to restaurants and the historical district. BUT the very strong currents, the wakes from passing boats, 24/7 make this a risky, uncomfortable and possibly dangerous location.

Docks are in a very strong current which appears to be taking their toll on them. The dockmaster was very helpful and nice. This Marina is in a good location to walk to shops and food. Very rolly and fairly loud with the roadway. Expensive for what you get IMHO but their aren't alot of options.

Great location to town, very rocky dockage but kept sea keeper on so the stay was pleasant, Dave the dock master was very helpful.

Love it! David was so helpful and communicated above and beyond. Gave us a lot of good local information about the surrounding area on and offshore. He provided all of the information we needed for a safe arrival given the nasty current. Perfect location for exploring town. Would not recommend for smaller boats, but anything large that is not impacted by the waves is good. We’ll be back!!

A little bumpy during the day, but settles down nicely overnight. Can't get closer to downtown...awesome! David is great to work with from reservations to docking assistance.

A private marina with an opportunity for transient docking depending on availability. The best location to access Portsmouth on foot as the marina exits directly onto Bow Street.

The staff was excellent. The current and the waves were so bad we couldn’t stay. It was knocking pictures off the walls and things off the shelf. Way to exposed for my liking

The Harbour master was extremely helpful! But the boat traffic in the river creates big swells that could potentially cause boat damage. Make sure you have lots of fenders!

David, the harbormaster was very friendly and attentive. He met us at the dock when we arrived and help us leave because of the current. We actually stayed at badger Island east, which I believe is an associated facility Located directly across the river. This marina is in an excellent location with numerous restaurants and shops within a 15 minute walk/half a mile. The facilities were very clean and well kept. Most of the reviews warn about the wake from passing boats, and it did get a little rough in the afternoon with the returning fishing boats and a flood tide. That is why I gave 4 stars. But even though we were on a face dock exposed to the river it wasn’t that bad, and we’ve certainly been at worse docks.

They cancelled our stay 5 hours before we arrived and we were forced to find a place elsewhere....TERRIBLE thing to do when we were already en route there and had dinner plans with family. Will NEVER book there ever again.

We ended up staying at Badgers East to avoid the bridge. There is a lot of current, but David is a very helpful dock master. Short walk into town.

Amenities listed for this marina were not onsite. This is not a marina - it is an urban dock that is not in a no wake zone.
The dockmaster is not available on Mon or Tue, so we were assisted by a friend of his. Although amenities were claimed, no map or signage was evident.
I was assigned the most upstream end of the dock. It was a time of extreme tides and currents were probably in the range of 5 knots at this end. Wakes in excess of 2 feet hit the boat at the dock. I left after one night due to safety concerns for my boat or crew if they should fall overboard.
The location for the town is great, but it is hard to enjoy it when your boat and crew are at risk. They did refund the second day.
