Nettles Island Marina

The good news is that the construction is just about done here with new concrete fixed piers and new power poles. Hence the reason for 2 stars and not 1. We received extremely poor service for a place that charges over $3/foot. Read on for details. The crew running the marina appears to be new/green. We booked through Dockwa several weeks in advance as we were attending a wedding nearby. Shortly after booking I received a call from Jamie asking to add them to our insurance for a 2 night stay. Very unusual but I had time to get it done. Once I got the endorsement to Jamie that was the last I heard from her. On the day we were to head over, I called in the morning to see if we could come early and nobody answered the phone, I left a message, but didn’t hear back. Since we were just over in Stuart, we drove over and the office was locked and still no answer on the phone. Granted it was a Saturday, but still unusual for a marina. We couldn’t get out on the dock because of a gate, but we could see from the road that assigned slip had a short finger and no pilings for the bow lines, so our bow would have been hanging way out with nothing to secure the bow to. As we were bringing the boat over, I finally got a call from Karina and explained my concerns about the slip, she said she would call me back, which she didn’t do. I tried calling her back on the number she called me from with no answer. When she did finally call back she gave us another slip option which turned out to OK, but upon our arrival there were much better options that we not offered and remained available during our stay. Nobody was there to meet us upon arrival, so we struggled getting tied up in a 20 knot wind. The marina is also not well protected from southerly winds, so it was also pretty bouncy once we were tied up. To top it off the gate requires a code to get out as well as in, which was not included in the welcome email even though Karina insisted it was and again no one answered the phone. Fortunately, one of the other marina guests helped us out with the code. We still never got the WiFi code which was also supposed to be in the welcome email. If they can staff the marina better and answer the phone, it will be a great place to stay, just a little sporty in a southerly blow.

Nice place. Major construction. Poor communication with Boaters. Better now with the office is manned full time, but need a group chat or better communication on construction and other events.

We have used the marina several times and were very happy with everything. Gilbert was always available if i had any questions or needed anything. We plan on making this trip on a more regular basis due to the great location and the helpful people.

Easy to get into protection from most wind was here for a month. Enjoyed Saunders Landing restaurant and Village Market on site. Walked our dog several times out on the Atlantic Ocean. Very friendly and helpful neighbors. Would love to stay again

The marina was a disgrace. The website is a total misrepresentation of the reality of Nettles Island Marina. Ten slips currently, the rest of the marina is gone. Most low tides our 5’9”draft was on the ground. Not the 7-10 feet noted on the website. The bathrooms are appalling. The ladies room, the ceiling vent is open to the outside. The ceiling was covered in mold. We never used the facilities. We paid for 50amp electric. We rented the slip for 6 weeks so we could fly home for the holidays. A friend called us after we left the boat. Our electric was unplugged by an electrician working for the marina and left unplugged. We lost the food in our fridge and freezer. The electric stansion failed and was never repaired our entire stay. We had to purchase an additional extension cord to supply electric to our boat so as not to loose our battery bank. We were never compensated for the loss of use. There is no staff present, ever. No dock hands and no one to address concerns. The owner “Gilbert” was of no help. The laundry facility was the only area that was not a total disappointment. As we did not see any negative reviews prior to arriving we were completely stunned by the condition of this marina. Unfortunately due to timing of our trip there was no alternative to this reservation. I am surprised Dockwa would be associated in any way with this marina.

We have been returning to the Marina for a few years now. Everyone here is amazing. We love coming back and will continue to do so as long as they allow us to. If you are looking for a place to vacation, this is the place. Check them out, you won’t be disappointed.

No staff on site. No security. Terrible facilities

We have stayed at Nettles Island Marina several times in the last 3 years. It is a unique location and has an old Florida feel. What we liked: 1) Our slip neighbor Sean Geraghty, a marina resident and an unofficial representative of the marina (or should be). Sean is a knowledgeable and skilled boat craftsman/ mechanic who helped us identify and rectify our failing alternator. Sean was fairly priced and worked efficiently. 2) The Sauders Landing Restaurant at the marina. Very good, fresh seafood at the dock. You don't need leave the site to treat your crew to a fine meal. The restaurant was busy each time we visited Nettles Island. 3) The location is walkable to the beach and other beach front restaurants. 4) On site shop for sandwiches, groceries, beer and ice. 5) Decent showers, good laundry What needs improvements? No onsite employees - Management needs to fix this if they want to grow. -You catch your own lines when you dock. - There are limited slips available, possibly due to past hurricane damage. - Poor wayfinding to the approach off the intercoastal. There are poorly maintained channel markers. Needs updating. We found 7-9 feet of water. SUMMARY Nettles Island Marina is a unique, pleasantly off beat, Bohemian marina with a friendly resident boating community, with excellent dockside dining and good basic provisioning on the premises. We stayed there thru end of November. Has everything you need right there and it is a short walk to the nice sandy beach. We stayed on our return trip and everything was great. Sean was a great help with anything we needed.

Will not stay here again. Place is really run down. Website is misleading. For the price of a slip you expecting a 5 star experience, unfortunately it was an expensive one star experience.

Confusing to enter because the entry channel marks are physically missing and not on Garmin either. Owner's explanation not very clear either. There is no one to help tie up other than other boaters . They were terrific but should not be relied upon to carry out a marina task. Pass this one by.

Nettles Island is a nice place and should be getting even nicer - I hope prices don't go up. They have 1 bathhouse for men and 1 for women. When marina is completely renovated, I hope this changes and gives a bit more privacy. Gilbert is young dockhand who was so nice and helpful. Restaurant was closed when we were there, but there is a grocery store at the marina with anything u need including deli and ice cream. Wish we had stayed longer to see more of the town.

Nettles Island Marina is great. My boat broke down in evening and needed to be towed to nearest avaiable marina. Nettles Island Marina was the only marina that responded to our calls for a berth for the night. Called in evening, they were very welcoming, friendly and supportive. Nice location, finishing new seawall. Highly recommend.

Awesome stay we will definitely be back!

The marina repair is underway. The restaurant was not open, and the facilities were not the greatest. Many of the docks are being repaired from previous storm damage. It should be great in about six months from August 28, 2023.

Had a great time there. Only a small portion of the marina is currently in use due to hurricane damage, but they are repairing the docks and there are a lot of local amenities and the beach is just across the road from the island.

Enjoyed the time at the Nettles Island Marina. The marina has new owners that are intending on rebuilding the marina to an upscale and modern marina. They have been working hard and I look forward to returning when it’s all done.
