Excellent marina, the best in the Savannah area we've stayed at. Staff was exceptionally helpful, fuel was $0.15 cheaper then any where else around town, and we were well protected. Oh yeah, it was great for dogs as well.

Thunderbolt is a favorite stop. Nicole is extremely knowledgeable and a real pro on the dock. Easy walk to local restaurants and a ship supplies store. We always enjoy our time at Thunderbolt!

Nice marina with good facilities. Nicole and James are very courteous and helpful. Very convenient stop off the Intracoastal. Close to shops and boat store. This was our third stay, and we will be back.

Great little Marina - great, helpful people! Quiet, small, all floating docks, very nice. Tubby's is a good little restaurant and just a short stroll away. No complaints! Both Nicole and James were awesome!

We found friendly, professional and efficient customer service to be a part of the fabric of Thunderbolt marina. The team at Thunderbolt are amazing, starting with Nicole who is a superb dockmaster. We approached the marina with a disabled vessel and impending severe weather. She expertly helped us transition our boat from a sea tow vessel to secure dockage. She also helped us coordinate with other staff for timely repairs. James was very helpful in putting us in touch the the right person for parts and was available with a helping hand when needed. Charles, the security guard was very kind in directing us to shipping and receiving where we were able to have packages delivered. The loaner car was an added bonus to this wonderful marina. Thank you!

Very accommodating and helpful at dock but very challenging approach at low tide (I’m on a 72’ Princess). Would not advise for this size vessel).

Hello Timothy - we do appreciate that there can be difficulties coming into the dock when the current is running strong, but we do have plenty of water at the docks - even at low tide - or was it the approach on the river itself that was a challenge? There are some very shallow areas for sure. If you do decide to come this way again, we recommend the services of Dana from Tow Boat US who does a bang up job guiding vessels through the trickier parts. Dog friendly! That's a key selling point for many who travel the ICW with pets on board. We have rules, but they are easy to obey and are typical of any other facility. Hope your pup was able to stretch its legs and get in some good sniffs! The current really can be quite strong at times, particularly on a windy wintry day - so it's great to have help from reliable and knowledgeable dockhands. We’ve stayed here often. It’s so convenient off the ICW. Dock hands are helpful and friendly. There’s a restaurant and marine store close by.

This is a smaller marina right on the ICW. What makes this marina special is Nicole. She runs the marina. We had a veterinary emergency, and Nicole helped us find a nearby vet who could see my dog. She was so kind and helpful. She also recommended the Flying Fish restaurant, which was wonderful. The facilities are fine, and Nicole is fantastic.

Two weeks and it went by quickly. New friends. The dock staff Nicole and James are fantastic. It’s made the short list of Marinas we will definitely stay at again. The courtesy car is top notch. Location is great. Good food within walking distance. Superior rest room, shower and laundry facilities. You can have items delivered. They go to the shipping and receiving office. Top notch facility and great people.

Thunderbolt Marina is conveniently located just outside Savannah on the Wilmington River in Thunderbolt, Georgia, at Intracoastal Waterway Marker #35 (ICW Mile #583) N 32° 01.467' W 081° 02.783'. There are no height restrictions when approaching from Wassaw Sound.
We monitor VHF Ch. 16, and Ch. 11 is our working channel. If you need docking assistance, please call us at 912-210-0363 before you arrive. All bookings or reservation inquiries must be made through one of our booking app partners, Dockwa or Snag-a-Slip. You will receive the fastest response from our Dockmaster using one of these reservation apps. Please contact us directly to discuss reservation requests exceeding 5 days. There is a 30-foot-per-day minimum charge for transient dockage. Optional shore power hook-up is not included in the advertised daily rate.
Note that the current in the Wilmington River can be very swift at times. You are advised to make approaches with your bow into the current with fendering and all dock lines, inclusive of aft and fwd running spring lines, ready for the dock attendant on duty. Please comply with all marina staff docking instructions while approaching our facility, as we are very interested in you having an uneventful and stress-free docking experience.
Thunderbolt Marina is just a short distance from Historic Downtown Savannah and provides a tranquil setting with easy access to our repair facilities with haul-out capabilities via Travelift and Syncrolift. Beyond the 3,500 lineal feet of available floating dock space, the marina offers several amenities listed below, assuring a comfortable stay.
