Safe Harbor Jamestown Boatyard

The review below was from my first stay several years ago. My additional recommendation from this stay is to avoid staying here if the wind is North to East. The mooring field is totally exposed to the NB East Passage. Waves seemed to be funneled into it. I just spent the most “Rock and Rolly” night of my boating career. 9/20/25 I just stayed 2 nights at Safe Harbor Jamestown Boat Yard. I’ve been to Jamestown before, but this is my first stay at JBY. My experience was excellent. I arrived in boisterous weather courtesy of Hurricane Teddy. Crew member Hallie kindly guided me to a relatively protected inner mooring next to an initially ominous big rock. I came to like it. The quarters were tight for my 34 ft sloop, but it proved to be an excellent mooring. The first night was quite bouncy, but view of NB East Passage and Newport was awesome, especially at night. The accommodations are hardly posh, but most adequate. I had use of their motorized dinghy after hours, which was most convenient. During working hours the staff was most accommodating with launch service. I spent one afternoon biking to Beavertail State Park. The scenery going and there was beautiful. Don’t miss this. Friendly staff and protected anchorage. Away from the hubbub of Newport, and not even in 'downtown' Jamestown; with easy access to Narragansett Bay. Offers moorings, not slips. For what it is worth, some of the nicest, cleanest mooring lines we have ever picked up.

Easterly winds made for choppy conditions at the mooring, also lots of wakes from passing boaters. Ended up leaving a day early. Ashore, marina staff were friendly, easy walk to town.

Great location, great service, great people. Quality show all the way around.

It’s an adequate harbor. Overnight stays can be challenging because of the waves from the Newport Harbor. There’s limited access to Jamestown with the launch. Staff is moderately helpful.

Easy in and out and nice help to find a mooring for a late reservation request but otherwise didn't seem like they are terribly welcoming for transients.

Super friendly staff at the boatyard and James for the moorings, and exceptional location on moorings. For those who look for remote place, far from the buzz of Newport. Shouldn't say it too loud at the risk of this place becoming to popular...

Very nice marina, conveniently located close to the entry to the harbor. Professional and friendly staff. Showers and bathrooms are in excellent condition.

We had a wonderful night and enjoyed our stay. We will be back for certain!!
