Very quiet. No problem getting in.

Very calm and peaceful. It was windier than usual but very comfortable. There are very few places to walk a dog, but we found a great spot.

Excellent protection

Calm and peaceful until the tour boats come in full speed with loud music. They do not know how to read the No Wake Zone signs and have no respect for the boaters and the park.

Review is based on my 17 day stay. The park staff was helpful and nice. They responded to emails within 2 hrs. The Wardens stopped by the boat to answer any questions- I enjoyed the conversation. Two boats anchored in the mooring field. Wardens quickly responded and removed the boats. The mooring balls are clearly numbered and easy to read. The addition of a yellow polypropylene eye on the mooring line, made it easy to insert the boat hook. The mooring I used had more than 6' and MLW. The entire field is fairly well protected. No noticeable current. So, boats swing with the wind. I look forward to returning.

SV Moxie: we stayed on Ball #6 (north mooring field) during a blow. It was great. Well protected and great holding. We had gusts to 38kts. One thing…….DO NOT cut the corner going to the north mooring field (balls 1-14). There is shoaling in there (1-2’ at low tide). It’s all sand but we saw several cats run aground. We mentioned it to the warden. They were aware.

I came here seeking safe Harbor from hurricane Melissa and let’s just say I’m glad I did. I found myself very. We had 92 mph gust and the balls held fine. They are new and in great condition. The area is absolutely beautiful and there is even a cave nearby where I was you can dive in that is full of beautiful fish. I’ll definitely be stopping here again!

Spent three days on ball #15 at 25-30 kts…never saw fetch more than 8”. Super protected. Slept like a baby. Laundry & liquor store is close. So is Browns.

Looks like nobody goes down here now because you have to pay for it. Well it's a National Park, it's beautiful, and it's a great place to get away from the GTown crowd. The approach is nowhere near as bad as it looks on the charts. We came out this morning at mid-tide and saw no less than 8.5 feet. Follow the yellow brick road and depth is fine...

Nice place! Nice and close to many adventures!

Peaceful, calm and beautiful. Dove the mooring and looked robust, though it tied to a sand screw and no idea how strong that is. Held our 48’ catamaran in 34 kts. Pretty expensive though.

About Moriah Harbour Cay National Park Moorings

Welcome to Moriah Harbour Cay National Park! Help us preserve the marine environment while enjoying our newly installed moorings at Red Shanks Cay as you explore and enjoy the park's beauty.

The Bahamas National Trust now offers 34 moorings at Red Shanks Cay (south of Crab Cay) and 2 moorings off the eastern end of Stocking Island that can accommodate up to 60 ft / 18 m vessels.

The Red Shanks Cay mooring field offers excellent protection from all wind directions and is a short dinghy ride to several local restaurants and businesses including a marina. George Town is approximately 15 minutes west and accessible through protected waters. Rolle Town is approximately 10 minutes east. The Red Shanks Cay mooring field is a great staging area for explorations of Moriah Harbour Cay National Park.

The Stocking Island moorings are located in a picturesque location on the western boundary of the park adjacent to the beaches, trails, and sandbars on the southeastern end of the island. A short dinghy ride will take you to snorkeling at channel reef (5 min), Guana Cay reef (10 min), and Fowl Cay reef (15 min). All snorkeling buoys are red with yellow pennnats. These moorings are protected, but are probably best in northerly and easterly winds.

Moorings fees are consistent with existing Bahamas National Trust park fees. Once your reservation is confirmed, fees must be paid in full Check out before 12pm. Check in after 2pm. Reservation requests will be confirmed on the same day if made by 1pm. Changes to reservations must be made 24 hours prior to arrival/departure/extension of stay. No wet storage available.

Please refer to our website for mooring field guidelines and tie-up instructions, and additional information. We strongly recommend that vessels with a draft of 5'+ enter the mooring field to approach moorings 1-14 at mid-high tide. Terms and conditions apply.
